My name is Jiri Krejcirik, a multidisciplinary designer based in Prague. My practice embraces a broad spectrum of disciplines and methods – it transcends the barriers between art and design, from product design through furniture, lighting, glass, interior and spatial design. Whether designing for a client or developing my own self–initiated projects or gallery objects, I always apply the same thorough attention to context, process and detail. As a result, my entire portfolio is characterised by a coherent visual language threading the historical and the cultural through a contemporary lens – with an unexpected edge. Embracing a tradition of craftsmanship, each product is hand-crafted locally, in the Czech Republic, produced in a limited series and being displayed only in meticulously chosen galleries and design showrooms in Europe.

Description | Jiri Krejcirik introduces a cabinet for the Futuro Studio brand, which is accompanied by the Arnaud bench. The structured cabinet crowns the Roots collection, which Jiří Krejčiřík and the Ostravabased brand presented for the first time in the Czech context at Designblok 2022. This April, it debuted abroad at the prestigious Alcova location during Milan Design Week. Roots comprises a spectrum of six core storage objects - shelves, cabinets and chests of drawers - that are connected by the inspiration of the forest and its organic shapes. Essential to the collection is the symbiosis of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship, which in turn allows working with fine details, colour, precious woods and also wood veneer, giving the entire Roots collection an unmistakable texture and sophisticated depth of colour. The cabinet is the seventh object with which Krejčiřík and Futuro Studio round off their joint journey with the Roots collection. It is a limited edition piece that has the most prominent imprint of Krejčiřík's signature aesthetic of the entire collection. The second solitaire exhibited within the installation is the designer's authorial piece; the Arnaud bench. Its folklore-red colour and distinctive form freely resonate with the neighbouring cabinet, creating an unexpected bond thanks to Krejčiřík's distinctive style. The bench is named after Arnaud Grilh, a French intern who helped manufacture the first example. |
